Have you ever thought of what little things go unnoticed around the school? What goes on under the surface? The staff at Blair High School is no different, with staff that cover a multitude of jobs.
Mrs. Holcomb, the principal of Blair High School, she isn’t able to vote on what happens, but she can make her case.
“one of those roles would be representing the building principal at the EMC executive council meeting…‘This is how it would or would not work for our building as represented within the district.’”
Trenton Bottroff, a special education teacher, has the mindset of being able to have fun while still in a learning mindset.
“On purple days, I start my day teaching English in ACP for the first two blocks and end with an individual studies clas. On a white day I go to Culinary to support students. I then got to know Mrs. Boyes in PE. My last block is social studies in the ACP room. I also have an awesome group of sophomores in AEP!” Mr. Bottroff sounds excited to do what he does in every sentence.
I asked Mr. Potter what he does outside of school , he said,
“I coach wrestling, and I do the weight room, I did the summer weights program and I do that before and after. I would say outside of school, a large portion is just kid stuff, taking them to sports doing all that.” What he does is important for the summer weights and his kids
Mr. Warner is another special education teacher.
“I just enjoy my job, and I like the classes that I teach and the teachers that I work with , and so every year I come back, I’m excited to see, first of all, the staff that I work with, and then seeing the students again too.”
Mrs. Maly is the main Special Education teachers, her favorite part of being a teacher is getting to see her kids everyday, she creates an environment where her students feel comfortable and have good times.
“The kids, every single day they have smiles. They love school. They love coming. We have a great group of kids.” Maly said.
Becca Stambaugh said she has many jobs.
Stambaugh said, “Well, some days I am a cook. Other days I am the caterer, prep person, cashier, dishwasher, and a maintenance person sometimes. My family even bought me my own tool kit for my birthday. My Food Service Director duties include overseeing each school. I am responsible for menu planning, purchasing, inventory maintenance, budget planning, event planning and more.”
What Merrick says about Mrs. Stambaugh sheds light on how much work Stambaugh does.
“I would change how much more Becca does than me. I want the work to be even to give her a break.”, said Merrick.
And lastly, a bus driver named Blake Gayer.
“There’s a staffing issue where we had to cut routes this year, so we didn’t have enough people. So that is a big issue right now, finding people that want to drive buses. I mean it’s hard to get a CDL license, but after that it’s just driving a big yellow square,” said Blake.
If we were to look from the perspective of the staff what do you think you would see? From these staff we see how much effort they put into their jobs. We see what they do and what they enjoy about it. Whatever they go through we are entirely oblivious to how much they do for us and the school as an entirety. So next time you see a staff member, try and say hi or ask them how they are. Just remember how much jobs they actually have other than just special education, bus driver, or lunch lady.
