Moving schools is hard. It is especially difficult when you move to a whole new place where you know not a single person your senior year of highschool. One thing that helps though, is moving into a town full of kind and loving people. A town like Blair, Nebraska.
The town of Blair only had 7,962 residents as of 2022. This is a very small and tight knit community. But it is one of the best that I have ever seen. It was definitely scary coming from a larger community, but my fears were quickly squashed during my first week here at Blair High School.
When you walk into a class, everybody is talking to one another, and you rarely see someone sitting alone. Everybody is nice to one another and the idea of gossip or drama is quite irrelevant compared to most large schools in the area.
“People are a lot nicer here,” said a new student at Blair High School, junior Teyvan McCartney. “They don’t normally tend to pick on people who are brand new to the school, or just anyone in general, and the rumors here are kept to a minimum.”
Blair High School stuck out to me specifically for their school spirit. During the 2023-2024 school year around 77% of our students were in at least one club or activity. This is around 535 out of 691 students who participated in an activity revolving around Blair High School.
“I like being on a school team because I get to hang out with my teammates,” said senior Lucas Matejka. “They enhance my high school experience by pushing me harder at practice, and help me enjoy the activities that I’m in.”
Even with so many people being involved in sports they still make it a point to show up and support their fellow classmates at their games. During football, volleyball, and softball games the stands are packed between both parents and students, and everyone is constantly cheering. The support coming from the community here is completely unmatchable.
Now being almost four months into the school year, I can strongly say that I have made the right choice to move here and there could not be a more perfectly fitting place for me. This town would be perfect for starting a family, or getting out on your own for the first time after school. This town could be perfect for everyone.
